StopTrik 2023 PROGRAMME
The 13th edition of StopTrik IFF presents 198 animated films in five packed days, celebrating stop motion animation and encouraging reflecting on social, cultural and political phenomena. This year’s edition will once again have a wide spectre of events. The international competitive programme features 31 of the most recent, daring and visually breathtaking works of animators. The common thread of the thematic programme is CENSORSHIP, represented by four-part retrospectives showing animations that have threatened the social status quo at certain points and have even been banned in some cases. There will be a stop motion animation workshop for children before the festival, whereas the professional Workshot has been upgraded into a critical literacy, concept development, screenwriting and stop motion animation workshop. This year’s festival is once again complemented by a rich film educational programme for our young ones; we are strengthening our ties with partner festivals and are continuing with a three-part stop motion animation competition programme for children (20 stop motion animations). We will discuss ways of silencing and methods of resistance, (dis)consent to invasions of privacy, and the balance between politics and creativity we will find at events with first-hand experience on how stop motion animatios are made. Our festival evenings will not be lacking fun either, we are preparing a diverse musical programme with visual accompaniment and somewhat novel screenings of animated films.
