Exhibition: In frames and strips. Croatian animation – comics artists

From September 29th to October 28th, the Vetrinjski Gallery puts a spotlight on the representatives of the Croatian art scene who at the same time create animated films and graphic novels. The exhibited film fragments, trailers, and stills give the attendees a taste of what they’ll be able to fully appreciate at the closing screening on the International Animation Day. 

Curator’s statement

The exhibition In Frames and Strips presents nine Croatian contemporary authors who express themselves artistically in both comics and animated film, reviving a world where imagination and perseverance, sensibility and skill, talent and patience meet. The exhibition brings a representative selection of comic pages and animated films through which we can on the one hand trace the essential points where comic and animation intertwine, and on the other hand, the specific visual and narrative methods, gestures and framing in the animation approach to comics and vice versa. Following the tradition of the connection between comics and animation through drawings, the comic handwriting that works equally well in both media, the exhibition will provide the viewer/reader with an opportunity to see how the authors treat these two similar but different media.
